About Me

My Background
One of my graduation photos from 2020

My name is Dylan Cook, a passionate, capable programmer and independent game and web developer living in Lubbock, Texas. Born and raised in Burbank, California, I moved to Lubbock to pursue an education at Texas Tech University, where I am currently attending my last semester with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. I will graduate in May 2024 with a Bachelor's in Computer Science and a Minor in Mathematics.

I have always had a keen interest in computers, programming, and video games, and in 2016, at the age of 14, I built my own gaming PC, which I have been using (with some upgrades along the way) for over 7 years. With this burgeoning passion for video games came an interest in modding for games like Minecraft, Fallout, Skyrim, and more, further developing my technical prowess alongside my deep-rooted passion for video games and their inner workings. More recently with the popularization of easy to understand tools like Godot, Unreal Engine, and Unity, I have begun pursuing independent game development, where I am adeptly integrating all of my experience as both a player and a modder.

When it comes to game development, I pride myself on being well-versed in industry trends and actively engaged in gaming discourse. I am eager to contribute my technical skills and profound love for the industry to create exceptional gaming experiences.

My web development journey started more recently, when I decided to apply my creativity, graphic design capabilities, and programming capabilities to the world of web development. I have been honing my craft in this field for about a year, constantly improving my skills and expanding my knowledge.

Personal Skills

I possess adept programming and design capabilities, capable of breaking down large projects into manageable pieces that lead to a more efficient, less stressful completion. I am equally capable of excellent work both in leadership roles and as a supportive team member, and maintain thorough organization and understanding of my roles in diverse collaborative projects.

Working under high stress, low time environments is of course not ideal, but it is a challenge I am familiar with. I have always excelled at multitasking and delivering top-notch results under unfavorable circumstances. My creative problem solving capabilities and my relentless desire to learn drive me to expand my knowledge and aptitude, and define my commitment to excellence in my field.

Future Goals

As I enthusiastically embark on my professional journey I am eager to acquire as much possible knowledge and experience in the initial years of my career as I can. Despite the vast amount of learning ahead of me, I am confident I can currently make impactful positive contributions in any position. I am eager to contribute my technical skills to create exceptional products, no matter what position I end up in.
